- Best seats at Indianapolis Motor Speedway
Whether you’re a fan of the IZOD IndyCar Series, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, or MotoGP, a trek to the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indiana is on top of many fans’ bucket lists. Opened in 1909, the track has been home to some of the greatest races in the sports’ history, and also hosted prestigious Formula One events from 2000 to 2007. If you’re interested in attending a race at “Indy,” finding the perfect seats should be one of your top priorities.
For the IndyCar fan, the Indianapolis 500 is a must-see event. Between grandstand seating and infield seating, it is estimated that approximately 400,000 spectators can view a race, making it the world’s largest and highest-capacity sports facility. Grandstands encircle the 2.5-mile oval almost completely, save for the backstretch area from Turns Two to Three. The best seats at the track for the Indy 500 are found on the frontstretch, particularly in the Paddock stands, as well as in sections H, C, and A. As veterans of live racing know, the top rows of the section are the premier seats at the track, and you’ll pay premium prices, but at a top cost of $150 per seat, tickets for the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” cost less than many other premier sporting events in this country and around the world.
NASCAR fans will want to seek out similar seats for the Brickyard 400. Top-range tickets for the “Brickyard” are $150 to $160 (the top rows of sections A and the Paddock stand), but lower seats in the aforementioned sections cost between $50 and $90 – if this is a better price range, aim for the highest seats available in this price range.
Tickets for the Red Bull Indianapolis GP are issued differently, as the MotoGP series uses the infield road course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Paddock and sections C and A will see the most action, but other grandstands may provide fans with better views of passes in the many turns. Prices range from $70 to $130 for any of the open grandstands for the Red Bull Indianapolis GP.
If you’re more price conscious about your racing trips, general admission seating may be your best bet – and may provide you with a unique view of the events. General admission for the Indy 500 and Brickyard 400 sends you to the infield, and while tickets do not include seat privileges, you can catch one of these events for a low price - $20 for the 500 and $30 for the 400. MotoGP general admission is available for the entire weekend ($60) or for Sunday only ($40).
