Describes several horror flicks in which “curses” seem to have been present.
Horror movies are scary, they’re shocking, and thrilling. But I’ve come to wonder if the ones who should be really scared and on edge is the actors of the movie. Time and time again these horror movies have horrific occurrences behind the scenes.
The Poltergeist was a smash horror hit trilogy of the 80s. Heather O’Rourke died at thirteen from septic shock from bowel obstruction. She was the star of all three movies-seems unconnected right? Dominique Dunn died at twenty three shortly after the film release. Her ex boyfriend (who was known to be abusive) murdered her. Coincidence right?In 1985, Julian Beck (the bad spirit) from the sequel died from cancer.The “good spirit” from the same movie, Will Sampson, died in 1987 due to a failure in a transplant.
Of course with any horror movie talk, we must bring up the master of all horror flicks-The Exorcist. This movie also racks up in the horror flick death toll. Six people died in the making of this film. Linda Blair, the star of the film had a mental breakdown while filming The Exorcist.The actors weren’t the only ones affected by the film. Blair’s grandfather died,Max Von Sydow’s brother died, and one of the cameraman’s children died. Jack McGowan, one of the actors died after his role,as well as a special effects expert and a night watchmen. Not to mention that the set burned down at one point.

Scared yet? The Omen also faced problems with projection when two days of footage became mysteriously ruined to what the director contributed to the supernatural. In the original production of the film, the scriptwriter’s plane was hit by lightening, Gregory Peck was on a plane that was also struck by lightening. The film seemed cursed from the beginning of the film when crew members were in a car crash that ended with one of the passengers being decapitated. A keeper of the “crazy baboon scene” died the next day-he was attacked by a lion. That was not the only crazy animal event that took place- the Rottweiler’s used in the film attacked their own trainers. And finally Richard Donner’s hotel was bombed.

Rosemary’s Baby is one of my favorite films. Sharon Tate, Roman Polanski’s wife was brutally murdered by the Charles Manson followers, Mia Farrow was served her divorce papers from Frank Sinatra while filming and then married Woody Allen who ran off with their adopted daughter, the hotel where they shot the film was the sight where John Lennon was murdered.

The star of the film The Crow, Brandon Lee died while filming due to an improperly loaded gun that actually shot him in the chest while filming the scene in which he is murdered.
It truly makes you wonder if these films invoke the very spirits they are trying to capture. Is it coincidence or supernatural? I am not sure, but just as I will not take the risk in being in a room where a Ouija Board is being used-I don’t think that i’ll be auditioning for any horror films soon.
