Manga Recommendations - Good Horror Manga

I have also provided recommendations for horror animes as well, most of which have very decent mangas as well. However, for the sake of variety, I have left them off this particular list.

While on his way home from a class trip, the train that Teru and his class were riding violently crashes and is trapped in a tunnel under a mountain. It seems that the only other two people that are alive are Ako and Nobuo, two of his classmates. They attempt to dig themselves out of the bleak situations and stay alive. However, the lack of light, food, and the ever growing stench of the dead is driving one of them insane. With the sudden earthquakes that keep shuttering the tunnel, it suggests that the outside world is no safer than being trapped in a tunnel with an insane little boy.

Dragon Head is a head first dive into the psychological. At first, you think it is going to be a simple survival story, but then it becomes a deranged post apocalyptic adventure full of insane people and deadly landscapes. it is a great story that really makes you think about the psychology of people when the world has ended or when they are trapped in the dark. There is vivid imagery and it is quite the thought provoking story.

Middle aged teacher Aoshika is going out of her mind trying to figure out what happened last night. She swears she saw a young high school student brutally beaten and hit by a car, however the student Inugami is perfectly fine and sitting in her class. What Aoshika did not witness was Inugami transforming into a werewolf like beast and slaughtering all those thugs en masse.

This is probably my favorite manga on this list. I enjoy a good werewolf story, emphasis on the good, and Wolf Guy does deliver. It delivers with devastatingly beautiful art as well, which sometimes makes it hurt all the more as there are some very heart breaking scenes in this one. I enjoy Wolf Guy because it deviates from the typical tortured and brooding werewolf stereotype. Though inugami is fairly brooding, he has a very pleasing sense of humor.

After a strange earthquake, an elementary school completely disappears leaving only a black hole deep into the Earth. Police and parents believe that the students and staff of the school have all perished somehow. However, the school was actually transported into a barren wasteland. Seeing this, the school erupts in a panic. Sho Takamatsu and his friends attempt to find out what happened while trying to stay alive.

Drifting Classroom is probably one of the most engaging stories in a horror manga that there ever was. In this manga, you think you get used to one situation and then BAM the situation changes completely and the survival rates change as well. The author really gives you some great insight into the minds of both adults and children when put into utterly stressful situations. This is not a manga for the light hearted as there are quite a few scenes of graphic violence.

The small town of Kurozu-cho is cursed. It is not cursed by some being, demon, spirit, person, or what have you. It is cursed by a pattern--Uzumaki. Uzumaki is the name for the spiral pattern and it is all over this town. At first it is seen on inconsequential things like seashells or ferns. However, the spirals begin to mark people's bodies. This pattern is leading to a madness that is settling over the town. As the madness spreads the inhabitants of this small town are pulled deeper into a whirlpool in which there is no return.

Uzumaki is so utterly chilling and artful, it was even named one of the American Library Associations' Top Ten Graphic Novels for Teens in 2009. Uzumaki is kind of like the perfect bit of horror, keeping true to what makes Asian horror movies so much more chilling. It has very little violence and uses intense imagery and storytelling to create a chilling affair. Which is why is also spawned its own live action horror movie. Be prepared to be freaked out by all the spiral shaped human beings.

There is a sinister game being played around Japan referred to as 'Rabbit Doubt'. In this game you pretend to be a bunch of rabbits in a colony, however one rabbit is chosen to be the wolf and each night kills another rabbit. The rabbits must then decide who is the wolf before it is too late. Some kids choose to meet up and play this game in real life. For a group of kids, the do just that. However, whomever was chosen to be the wolf has taken it too seriously. they are killing for real. Can these kids discover the wolf before they all meet an unpleasant end?

Doubt is a great horror mystery with some really creepy rabbit heads to boot. This is a short manga, like Uzumaki and was really quite popular when it was released. what really makes this special is that it has more twists and turns than an M. Night Shyamalan movie. Some murder mysteries like this the murderer is completely obvious, however in Doubt they keep you utterly perplexed right up to the end. Doubt is kind of like reading a Saw movie as well, since there are some very creative deaths.

These are just a few of the best selected from my personal manga library. If you have been fortunate to see all of these or have a specific sort of manga in mind, leave a comment. I can give more suggestions if you want them!

Extreme Horror Films of The 60s & 70s

Brief overview of some of the most extreme horror movies released during the 1960s & 1970s.

Blood Shack: H.G. Lewis invented the gore/splatter film with this 1963 $26,000 horror film. A madman is hired to cater a wedding, but in reality he’s preparing a cannibal feast in honor of the pagan goddess he worships.

Bloody Pit of Horror: A group of tourists in Europe make the mistake of stopping for the night at a castle in Europe owned by a madman who enjoys trying out the castle’s torture devices.

Night of the Living Dead: This film has influenced modern horror in countless ways. Besides creating the basic template for the modern zombie it also pushed the limits of onscreen violence.

Man From Deep River: The first Italian Cannibal film. This film created the template for these movies.

The Last House On The Left:Rape/Revenge became the focus of a number of influential movies released during the early 70s. Deliverance and Straw Dogs were mainstream films that used this basic theme, but neither film was willing to go as far as Last House does in showing the true horror of it.

I Drink Your Blood: A Hippie Devil cult becomes infected with rabies and go on a killing spree. An effective variant on Night of the Living Dead.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Tobe Hooper created one of the most effective horror films ever made. Leatherface is the first modern icon of the Horror Genre.

Thriller: A Cruel Picture: A young girl is molested in a park and becomes mute. Years later she becomes the captive of a pimp who hooks her on heroin and forces her to be a hooker. The pimp gouges out her eye with a scalpel and she decides to get her revenge. This film influence the look of The Bride in Quentin Tarantino Kill Bill films.

Bloodsucking Freaks: This is one of the most over the top films released during the 1970s. An insane theatre owner tortures and murders people onstage in front of audiences who believe it is all just an act. Influenced by the works of H.G. Lewis (Wizard of Gore shares a similar basic premise, but isn’t as effective).

I Sit On Your Grave: A woman is raped by four men in the woods and gets her revenge.

Ilsa She Wolf of the SS: Ilsa is head of a Nazi POW camp during WW2 and performs medical experiments on her prisoners.

The World’s Longest Novel

The longest novel ever written is not Leo Tolstoy’s much talked about War and Peace, and neither is it Victor Hugo’s equally long Les Miserables that ably covered the Paris Uprising. The onus must fall on little known semi-autobiographical novel Zettels Traum written by German author and translator Arno Schmidt and completed in 1970. Find out why.

No, its not Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace

Forget Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace which took me more than a fortnight to read and finish, the world’s longest novel is arguably Zettels Traum, a million-word tome written in German by author and translator Arno Schmidt. This big book was completed in 1970 after seven years of patient authorship and covers the lives of Daniel Pagenstecher, visiting translators Paul Jacobi and his wife Wilma, and their teenage daughter Franziska.

Zettels Traum is semi-autobiographical

The novel is semi-autobiographical and concerns the problems the author must have faced when translating American author Edgar Allan Poe from English to German. It is set in the Lüneberg Heath of northeastern Lower Saxony in northern Germany in 1968 and was inspired by Finnegan’s Wake, a novel by James Joyce.

Image via Wikipedia

How long is the novel?

Like aforementioned, the novel contains more than 1,000,000 German words published in folio format covering an amazing length of 1334 pages. Compare this amazing length with the Tolstoyan War and Peace’s 560,000 words or Victor Hugo’s gigantic Les Miserables which manages about 513,000 words in French. Left out are cyclical novels that were written for different periods of time and in separate volumes such as Marcel Proust’s A la recherché du temps perdu which covers seven volumes and more than 1,500,000 words, Jules Romains’ Les Hommes de Bonne Volonté in 27 volumes and more than 2,000,000 words and Artamene, a 10 book novel written by Madeleine and Georges de Scudéry.

About the author Arno Schmidt

Arno Schmidt was a German author and translator born in January 1914 in Hamburg. He was the son of a police constable best known for his attempt to translate the popular Edgar Allan Poe into German. Zettels Traum is his best known fictional work, written in the once popular stream of consciousness whose proponents included James Joyce, Virginia Woolf and the Brontes among other authors of the time. He died on the 3rd of June 1979.

Tak Blusukan Ke Terminal, Jokowi: Nanti Malah Lebih Macet

Obama to urge Congress to shutter Fannie, Freddie

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama, seeking to buffer taxpayers from future housing market downturns, will urge Congress this week to back bipartisan efforts to shutter Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the mortgage-giants bailed out by the government in 2008.Obama will also renew his calls for sweeping mortgage refinancing legislation when he travels to Phoenix Tuesday. Arizona's desert capital was the epicenter of the housing crisis that began in 2008, but the market there has rebounded strongly, with home prices up and foreclosures down. The president's visit to Phoenix marks the latest stop on his summertime economic tour aimed at refocusing his agenda on middle class Americans still struggling to fully recover following the recession. The collapse of the housing market in particular had a dramatic impact on people's lives and the economic viability of communities across the country."So many Americans across the country view their own economic and financial circumstances through their homes and whether they own a home, whether their home is underwater, whether they feel like they have equity in their homes," White House spokesman Jay Carney said Monday.Senior administration officials said Obama would focus in Phoenix on shifting more of the burden for supporting the nation's massive mortgage market to the private sector. A centerpiece of that effort is his support for winding down Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.The White House has already lauded efforts to achieve that goal spearheaded by Republican Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee and Democratic Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia. While Obama will outline his own proposals on Tuesday, his plans are largely in line with the bipartisan Senate overhaul.Officials said Obama will insist that the government only step in to pay out mortgage guarantees after private capital has been exhausted and that private capital bear the substantial majority of any losses. He will also call for Fannie and Freddie's investment portfolios to be wound down by at least 15 percent per year.Obama advisers did not outline a specific timeframe for winding down Fannie and Freddie. The Corker-Warner legislation would shutter the operations within five years.Fannie and Freddie were nationalized during the 2008 financial collapse and bailed out with $187 billion in taxpayer-funded loans. The two enterprises don't directly make loans, but buy mortgages from lenders, package them as bonds, guarantee them against default and sell them to investors.Fannie and Freddie currently own or guarantee half of all U.S. mortgages and back nearly 90 percent of new ones.Against the backdrop of Phoenix's reinvigorated housing market, Obama will also tout refinancing proposals that gained little traction on Capitol Hill when he first unveiled them last year. Among his proposals is a call for expanding refinancing eligibility for homeowners who do not have government-backed mortgages. The president will also look to link his housing proposals to immigration reform, his top second term legislative priority. Officials said he will argue that legal immigration can stimulate the housing market, noting that immigrants accounted for 40 percent of new homeowners nationwide between 2000 and 2010, according to the Obama administration. The officials insisted on anonymity in order to preview the president's remarks ahead of his trip. The nationwide housing recovery has been providing critical support to the economy at a time when manufacturing and business investment have stagnated. Steady job growth and low mortgage rates in the past year have also fueled more home sales. The increased demand, along with a tight supply of homes for sale, has pushed home prices higher. That's encouraged builders to start more homes and create more construction jobs. The recovery in Phoenix is emblematic of the larger improvements happening in many parts of the country.Just two years ago, the region was in the throes of the worst housing collapse in the country, with prices down nearly 60 percent from their June 2006 peak and banks foreclosing on 70,000 homeowners a year. While the current median home price remains below peak, the levels have risen 66 percent from September 2011. Buyers are plentiful and homes for sale scarce, leading to bidding wars for resale homes._Associated Press writer Bob Christie in Phoenix contributed to this report._Follow Julie Pace at http://twitter.com/jpaceDCBecome a fan of our G+ page for the most intriguing stories of the day. … More »Are you on Facebook? The Longest Novels of Europe

I analyzed the longest novels published from Europe. One country bears the two biggest European novels ever written.

Europeans are proud of their literature. Many of the European novels published since The Middle Ages are classics today in the English speaking countries of the world. But there is one European country that stands out as having the 2 longest classical European novels ever written. No other classical European novel comes close in length to these 2 literary masterpieces. What country in Europe bears these 2 mega-novels?

Here are the 2 classical mega-novels:

1. Artamene by Madelaine and Georges de Scudery

This epic prose classical French novel was published in 1653 (356 years ago) in Paris, France. The novel is 5 times longer than Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace! When the novel was published in France, it was 15,000 pages thick, in 10 separate volumes! Wow! What an epic prose novel! If this classic novel became a film that adhered to the lot of the story, that film would comprise a series of 20 DVDs! The novel deals with the life of a young man named Artamene, who loves a young woman named Mandane, but is prevented from being with mandane because Cyrus the Great disguises himself as Artamene and takes her away! This evil deed by Cyrus is just one of his evil actions that eventually made him king. But Artamene gets justice against his arch enemy, King Cryus. The ultimate European classical romance novel of all time in world literature!

2. In Search of Lost Time by Marcel Proust

This classical French novel was published in 1927 (82 years ago) in 7 volumes in Paris, France. It is the second largest classical novel of France and of Europe. The prose epic novel was about 10,000 pages. Wow! Still very thick! It was Marcel Proust’s magnum opus which he finished just before his untimely death. The epic prose classical French novel deals with Proust’s philosophies in his lifetime. It is considered the ultimate autobiography by one author ever in world literature!

If you are French or a mix of French, you should consider yourself lucky. These 2 novels are classic prose epics that cannot be surpassed by any other European or American prose novel ever published in history. I dare any person to read these novels either in French or in translation for your next book report! Any takers?

Horror Stories

Whether horror is American or Europeans it thrills the viewers. What is so interesting about horror that people flock to see it?

Horror is something we want to avoid in our life in the real world. However thrilling and exciting the situation looks,to face horror in real life we are reluctant, but on television or movies we flock to enjoy it.What is the reason behind it? According to behavioral research we are thrilled by the fear factor, and would like indirect participation that will cause us no physical discomfort.Viewing horror may not physically harm you,but it will definitely make you mentally uncomfortable if we view on a continuous basis.Horror episodes are thrilling for adults but not for children under the age of thirteen. It may affect their thinking patterns and behavior in general,if they are allowed unrestricted viewing of horror in the media.Horror occasionally thrills but extreme horror makes you feel disgusted rather than entertained. The fact that they have been adapted from fictions based on  real crime filled with horrific experience, make the drama even more distressing to the  weak hearted. Will these scenes really entertain  or thrill  the average viewer, who doesn’t have a stomach for gruesome acts on  visual media? American Horror may have huge following, but will  morbidity always fascinate viewers?.Horror is entertaining,if it hold the viewers  interest, but if becomes a sort of mediocre  do we need it?Do we need werewolf, vampires and ghost to entertain  us to fill  our  senses with  fear and  horror?Any way, violent  acts of these evil creatures  may fill a minority of the viewers with disgust and  anxiety. youngsters, teens and youth are avid fans of horror fiction.Today the criteria for entertainment to be popular, the drama or fiction, need to filled with macabre acts of horror. To satisfy  the audience  with excitement  and thrill, fictions are packed with mindless horror and adventures .Anyway let us hope that  our viewing talents may not degrade to shallow techniques that will churn out horror fiction to satisfy the media viewership.Let us  develop a healthy viewing attitude that will increase the range and depth of our fictional entertainment, rather than  horror fictions that will only  numb us with mindless crime and disgust.Let American Horror have better themes that will entertain it’s viewers instead  of filling them with cheap horror gimmicks.

Horrors thrills but let it never kill  our  ability to enjoy ordinary fictions and themes that will relax us  with positive emotions and enjoyment.

Product reviews: Shoei X-Spirit crash helmet

People’s heads are different shapes and sizes and it is of the utmost importance to buy a helmet that fits properly. I would never buy a helmet because of the make or model, or because it is available in a specific color scheme, although I am aware many people do. In my opinion, one of the most important things when buying a helmet is to ensure it is the perfect size. Too big and you find that it will move around on your head, especially with the wind, which I find impairs vision and concentration. In addition to this if you have an accident there is the possibility the helmet will come off, which could lead to severe consequences. If the helmet is too small then it will ‘dig’ in somewhere, that is providing you can actually get it on, which will lead to aches and pains, which could also lead to a lack in concentration.

The X-Spirit is the top of the range Shoei helmet that is constructed out of fibreglass and carbon fibre. In fact, it contains the most carbon fibre of any helmet currently on the market, hence making it very strong and very rigid.

The Shoei website claims “Numerous hours in the wind tunnel and on racetracks around the world has made the X-Spirit an aerodynamically superior helmet with minimal lift and drag, plus incomparable fit and ventilation”. I can confirm the X-Spirit is very streamlined and with its rear spoiler it really does reduce wind resistance and drag, although it does look strange. It wasn’t until I tried this helmet I appreciated just how much resistance my old helmet created and the X-Spirit goes through the air like a hot knife through butter.

The medium sized X-Spirit weighs in at 1.33Kg, which makes it one of the lightest helmets on the market. It’s lightweight increases the comfort as neck muscle fatigue is reduced during periods of extensive wear. Although it is lightweight the strength is not compromised due to the amount of carbon fibre.

One of the best things about the X-Spirit is the fully removable inners. The cheek pads, skull-cap and neck roll can all be removed to ensure the perfect fit. In my case I am the small side of medium, therefore, I bought a small helmet and had it fitted out with medium sized pads and the fit is spot on.

In addition, the removable inners can be cleaned (although they shouldn’t be machine washed and tumble dried as this will ruin them) which stops your helmet from smelling, which is great because there is nothing worse than a smelly helmet.

Once you have set up a realistic budget to live on, then you can begin to set up a realistic goal to save money each month.

  • 2

Wait before you buy. In order to break the habit of wasting money on impulse purchases, impose a waiting period on yourself. Wait for a month, and if you still really want that item, then buy it if you have the money.

  • 3

Put a limit on how much you will spend each month on things such as entertainment or morning stops at the coffee shop. Use cash and divide money that you have allocated for Starbucks or entertainment into envelopes. Once your envelope is empty there are no more dinners out or morning lattes. This allows you to continue to have access to the things you enjoy but stops you from overindulging by setting limits.

  • 4

Have money automatically deducted from your paychecks. It's an easy way to save money each month. If you don't see it, you don't miss it.

  • 5

Look into making lifestyle changes that will help you save money each month. Take public transportation, quit smoking or buy some necessary items at thrift stores or consignment shops to save a little money each month.

Anime Recommendations - Good Horror Anime

If you are interested in watching more horror animes, why not try some of these gems?

I have also provided recommendations for horror manga as well, most of which have very decent animes as well. However, for the sake of variety, I have left them off this particular list.

High School of the Dead adapts the classic zombie plot. During and average day at an average Japanese high school, the dead begin to rise as zombies around the world. A few students and a school nurse band together to escape the school and survive the zombie plague. They set out to discover who let this lethal plague loose on the world and to survive both the living and the dead.

If you are a fan of AMC's The Walking Dead but thought it needed more hot chicks showing off what God gave them, then this is the perfect show for you. High School of the Dead is a decent anime and had a lot of promise to be a great zombie survival anime, a genre of anime that is really non-existent. They kind of mucked up the plot by providing too much fan service. If you are new to the term "fan service" it means there are a lot of scantily clad chicks running around. If you can look past all the busty chicks, there is quite a lot of good zombie killing action.

Guts is a young mercenary that wields a sword as big as his young body. After a battle he encounters the charismatic leader Griffith of the fabled Band of the Hawk mercenary group. After losing a duel to Griffith, he joins his mercenary group. Their mercenary band is driven by a need for social status and makes all the armies of Midland quake in fear before them. The path that Gutts and Griffith set in motion is one that will bring the world to its knees.

Berserk is as classic a horror anime as ever. The Berserk anime series will allure you with plots within plots and blood drenched action scenes. The ending of the anime will literally leave you speechless for at least 20 minutes. It is the most utterly devastating anime ending you will ever see. Not to give anything away or anything.

After moving into the quiet town of Hinamizawa, Maebara Keiichi spends his days blissfully in school often playing games with his local friends. However, appearances can be deceiving. One fateful day, Keiichi stumbles upon news of a murder that had occurred in Hinamizawa. From this point on, horrific events unfold in front of Keiichi, as he soon learns his close friends may not be all that they seem.

Don't be fooled by these adorable looking little girls. They are crazy and deadly. I personally think the cuter the characters in a horror anime, the more fun it is. Higurashi is indeed a fun romp through the horror genre, though it can be horribly confusing sometimes. The plot also tends to move at a sluggish pace too, but when you get to the horror, it is just...horrible.

Hellsing follows the blood-drenched adventures of the anti-hero vampire Alucard and the police girl her sired named Seras. These two vampires work for the Hellsing Organization which works as a vampire extermination organization in Britain. During their adventures they fight werewolves, Nazi zombies, and of course vampires of all kinds.

Hellsing, like Berserk, is a classic horror anime. It is really the go to anime for horror really. Hellsing is the anime that makes vampires not look like creepy sparkly pretty boys like Twilight or Vampire Knight. Hellsing is a twelve episode series that gets the gist of what the manga set out to do, but it soon dissolves into filler content that was not present in the manga. Thus Hellsing Ultimate was born. If you are a fan of the Hellsing manga or want to experience Hellsing as it was meant to be experienced, Hellsing Ultimate is what you want to watch. Though the original Hellsing is not a bad anime to sit down with if you are not familiar with the manga, but it lacks Pip.

Throughout the passage of time and the shifts in backgrounds, a particular war continues to leave its mark on history, extending its influence into the modern world. There are two major groups involved in the ensuring war. The first group consists of monsters known as Chiropterans who can change their appearances into that of human beings. They are actually immortals who feed on the blood of the living. The second group is an organisation known as the "Red Shield", formed to track down these monsters and exterminate them. Otonashi Saya is a high-school girl who lives a peaceful life with her family. The only problem is, she has no recollections of her life beyond that of the past year. However, her happy life will be destroyed by an event that will lead her to her destined fate.

Like a lot of horror animes, Blood+ can be hard to get into. Mostly because the plot can take forever to get to the good part. Though with the slow plot, the horror is a nice slow burn as the plot thickens. If you are into awesome action scenes for your horror anime, all you have to do is wait till the end of the anime. When Saya gets to her final task, the battle become pretty epic.

Devil May Cry follows the dashing badass named Dante. He is a demon hunter that runs his business called devil May Cry which is charged with slaughtering all things related to demons. Along with his trusty sword named rebellion and his twin pistols Ebony and Ivory, Dante brings the pain to all things that go bump in the night.

If you couldn't guess, Devil May Cry is indeed based off the Devil may Cry video game series. Unlike Devil May Cry 1 through 3, the Devil May Cry anime if F%#@ing beautiful. There is plenty of demons and slaughter to make this a perfect entry into the horror genre, but honestly it is worth watching just for a beautiful use of animation.

These are just a few of the best selected from my personal anime library. If you have been fortunate to see all of these or have a specific sort of anime in mind, leave a comment. I can give more suggestions if you want them!

MUI Imbau Umat Islam Gelar Takbir Keliling Semarakkan Idul Fitri

"Pengurus masjid, ormas, pejabat, perlu mengkoordinasikan pelaksanaan takbir keliling," tambahnya.

Siapa saja mereka? Nantikan liputannya di Reportase Sore pukul 15.00 WIB Hanya diTrans TV

Romantic Novel’s Effects

For people who often read romantic novels, they sometimes unconsciously imitate the behavior of the existing characters in the novel.

Many people say romance novel just selling a dream. But I believe anything you read there is always sure that you can take as a lesson. What is it?

Relaxation
Fatigue after activity in the office, reading a romance novel it could be one option for relaxation. When you are carried away with the romance in the novel, you can forget for a moment the problem of being hit.

Learning about Culture and Language
Typically, a romantic novel took place in the city or the country of interest. As you read, so do not feel you had to learn about the culture and lifestyle of the local community. Not only about the culture, you will also enrich the vocabulary and up to date with the new term.

Destination
By reading romance novels you can also study places – places of interest to visit such tourist attractions, restaurants, shopping and entertainment areas of several countries around the world. Could be an interesting reference for a vacation with his family right?

Fashion
Romance novels often describe the clothing, bags, and accessories used by the main character in the story – in detail. This could be a new input for an alternative style of dress.

Dating Science
This one is definitely you can learn in a romantic novel. How to bring a date, to surprise your partner, how to move on, and … of course learn about “bed” things.

Top 4 Fourth of July Horror Flicks

Based on the book by author Peter Benchley, this film was directed by Steven Spielberg and featured great actors like Roy Scheider and Richard Dreyfuss, among many others, Jaws really hit the mark by using suspense and the anticipation of violence as effectively as any actual death scenes or the times you finally get to see the full shark.  This one took place leading up to the 4th of July - and the mayor says you can't shut down the beach so we get a great horror flick as a result.  And who doesn't want to kick off a 4th of July mini-marathon with a classic?  By far and away also the stronget overall movie of the four on this list, although the next one is more directly tied to the American holiday.

Sometimes titled "Uncle Sam Wants You Dead," this is actually a mis-match of the main tag line alone with the movie title.  Made in 1997, this horror-comedy introduces you to Sam Harper who is an extremely patriotic, and extremely sadistic, soldier fighting in the Gulf.  He's killed by friendly fire and is resurrected back in his hometown on the Fourth of July where he makes it his mission as "Uncle Sam" to punish all the unpatriotic members of his hometown.

This is what campy horror is made of, and even features singer and former voice of Chef from South Park, Isaac Hayes.  You have everything you want here: campy comedy, some great death scenes, and as patriotic a zombie as you will ever see in a movie.  It's a very worthy combination to bring it to #2 on your July 4th horror movie themed marathon and is the most direct 4th of July connection on this list.  At least until someone makes a Revolutionary War era zombie movie (which by the way, would be awesome).

Like most of the movies on this list - there aren't many directly tied to July 4th but this slasher sequel is one that takes place around the 4th so it's on the list.  This isn't normally the type of horror film you would put on the best of list but it fits the time line and at least for the guys there's the silver lining of being able to watch Jennifer Love Hewitt, which defnitely helps to perk up the mood when watching a mid level horror flick that is just trying a little bit too hard to simultaneously copy what worked from the first while one upping it.  Still, you usually don't hit the horror movie marathons looking for higher level thought - you're looking for body counts.

On this line, it follows as a #3, so it's not top of the list but it's going to be a worthy filler to help you complete your goal of an independence day themed horror movie marathon and until someone gets an itch on somehow creating monsters that go with fireworks and funnel cake, for now it'll have to do.

Not your conventional pick, this one might take a little bit more searching to find if for no other reason than it is actually from a TV show and not a stand alone horror movie in and of itself.  This is from the Masters of Horror series that was created for the Showtime Network.  One episdoe was entitled "Homecoming" and while more heavily political than many other conventional mindless entertainment based horror, still you have a lot of politics and you have war veteran zombies en masse showing up on the 4th of July.

The "Homecoming" episode features a lot of argument between characters obviously meant to represent real pundits like Rush Limbaugh or Ann Coulter arguing over whether a war is just or not.  Those killed in the war begin coming back and protesting it, and once they get called traitors and unpatriotic, they take things into their own hands by going with the zombie instincts.  It's not pure horror in the sense of being meant for scares, but it rounds of the July 4 mini-marathon with the much needed fourth entry.

What Direction is The Survival Horror Gaming Genre Heading?

What Route Is the Success Scary Game playing Category Heading?

With the latest launch of Deep Mission’s Deceased Area 3, many lovers sensed frustrated with the modify in direction that the designers took. What was once a series that targeted intensely on the horror element of the encounter, has modified into a series that has moved into concentrating more on the activity element.

The choice to move towards this design of activity was created mainly due to the financial element of business. The activity designers made the choice that if they created Deceased Area 3 have a lot of activity in the encounter, even at the price of the horror components, the encounter would offer more duplicates and overall be more effective than if they had just targeted entirely on the survival horror element. What does this mean for the survival horror activities as a whole is up for discussion.

Many individuals need to understand that the survival horror genre has a relatively little fan platform in comparison to other styles of gaming. Developers have noticed that if they want to create a activity title with survival horror components they can catch the interest of this little market of gamers. At the same time, designers can create a activity title with horror components, but also have the encounter contain and even concentrate more on another more well-known genre.

For example, with Deceased Area 3 Deep Games had delved more into the activity element of gaming, which will taken the interest of many gamers who had formerly compensated no interest to the survival horror genre. With this modify the encounter was able to offer more duplicates, and entice a bigger variety of gamers, the long run of survival horror gaming dangles in the stability.

Many survival horror gamers seem annoyed at this latest understanding, but this is not actually a bad thing. While many individuals were frustrated with the way Deceased Area 3 converted out in regards to the survival horror sensation gamers once sensed with the series, this modify has permitted a huge variety of individuals who formerly desired nothing to do with this horror genre to try it out.

With this improve of lovers to the survival horror genre, more and more designers may try to explore this area. Consequently we may gradually get more survival horror activities being designed by the significant activity designers.

This concept of having more gamers enthusiastic about the horror genre may seem attractive and may audio like a smart concept. The real situation may not be seen in an entirely beneficial mild. It is no shock that the horror genre is reducing down when looking at the significant designers.

With headings such as Citizen Wicked lately switching into an activity loaded gaming series, and now Deceased Area following in fit, these designers have been including more activity and less horror to their headings. This can be linked to the point that these designers are trying to create as much money as possible.

The problem these designers have is that they are promotion a survival horror encounter, but offering an activity focused activity. If these designers had desired to offer as many duplicates as possible, they should come up with a new series and allow this new series to pay attention to the activity element while maintaining the old series unchanged.

Even though the significant designers are not concentrating as much on the horror element of gaming does not mean that this genre is passing away out. As opposed to this perception, this horror genre is increasing significantly quick with the lots of separate designers that are launching and working on survival horror headings.

These separate designers are launching activities that are increasing extremely well in reputation. Such headings consist of that of “Amnesia: The Black Descent”, The soon to be launched new “Amnesia: A Device for Pigs”, “Slender” and the lots of sequels that are being, involved with the lots of other horror separate activities being launched everyday.

These activities are increasing in reputation, and as such more and more gamers are diving into the survival horror genre to try out these activities. With this new modify in interest, new designers are trying to replicate these achievements that these separate designers have had.

As to the long run of the horror genre, gamers need to understand that the genre will keep growing mainly through separate activities. The significant designers may see that the genre at this time is not as profitable as other styles out there. Until these designers begin to see that the survival horror genre is increasing in reputation, then maybe we will begin to see new headings that concentrate entirely on the survival horror genre.

Read up more on the topic and find out more about the horror gaming series by viewing the site below.

How to Clean Money

Paper Money

  • 1

Add a small amount of laundry detergent (one without bleach) to a small bowl and then add the hot water, mixing the detergent with the water. Make a mental note that paper money cannot be cleaned completely because of the fibers used to make it, but that this process will get it as clean as possible at home.

  • 2

Add the paper money--no more than three bills at a time for a small bowl, or use a large bowl for more bills. Soak the bills completely on both sides. Let the bills soak in the hot water for 15 minutes.

  • 3

Rub the bills while they still are in the water to remove any dirt that may have lifted a little bit while soaking. Remove the bills and place them flat on a dry towel. Fold the towel over so both sides of the bill are covered. Press on the towel to remove any excess liquid. Remove the bills and place them on a flat, dry surface.

Coins

  • 4

Rinse your coins in warm water to remove any surface dirt with your fingers. Move the coins aside and fill a small bowl with dish soap and hot water. Place the coins into the bowl, but be careful not to place too many coins together, as they may scratch one another in the water.

  • 5

Let the coins soak in the water for 15 minutes. Check the coins to see if they are clean enough. If not, fill a small bowl with rubbing alcohol and let the coins soak in the bowl for 10 minutes. Dry the coins with a clean towel and check if the coins are clean. If not, proceed to Step 3.

  • 6

Fill a jar a few inches deep with olive oil. Place the coins in the jar, ensure they are not scratching one another and seal the jar. Leave the jar alone for a week, then check on the coins to see if they are cleaner. Note that olive oil can get the deep, ground-in dirt out of coins, but it may take a very long time (years, sometimes). If your coins still are dirty after a week, put them back in the jar and check again in another month. Do this until the coins are clean to your satisfaction.

Gavin MJ "Dikeroyok" JKT48

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — Vokalis remaja, Gavin MJ (13), mengaku optimistis akan membawa pulang trofi Dahsyatnya Awards 2013 untuk kategori Aksi Panggung Terdahsyat. Ia bersaing dengan group idol JKT48, trio dangdut Trio Macan, boyband XO IX, dan vokalis pop Syahrini.

"Harus optimistis dong. Tapi, kalau enggak menang juga enggak apa-apa," kata putra perancang busana Lenny Agustin ini seusai jumpa pers Dahsyatnya Awards 2013: Wujudkan Kedahsyatan Cintamu, di Rolling Stone Cafe, Jakarta Selatan, Rabu (16/1/2013).

Gavin memang tak memandang sebelah mata nomine lainnya. "Siapa yang enggak kenal Syahrini? Dia penyanyi hebat," pujinya.

Obama visits Jay Leno: ‘Odds of dying in a terrorist attack are a lot lower than they are of dying in a car accident’

By Eric Pfeiffer, Yahoo! NewsReporterLOS ANGELES - President Obama wrapped up his Western swing with an appearance on NBC’s “Tonight Show.” In a wide-ranging interview with the late night talk show host, Obama discussed recent terrorist threats, Hillary Clinton, the NSA controversy and whether the U.S. might boycott the 2014 Winter Olympic games in Russia.

"The odds of dying in a terrorist attack are a lot lower than they are of dying in a car accident, unfortunately," Obama said when asked by Leno if it is still safe for Americans to travel abroad in light of recent heightened terrorist threats. Obama denied that the U.S. has a domestic spying program but said the work done by the National Security Agency (NSA) is a “critical component” in keeping the country safe from outside threats. "We don’t have a domestic spying program,” he said. “What we do have is some mechanisms that can track a phone number or an email address that is connected to a terrorist attack. That information is useful." However, Obama did acknowledge that recent accusations of the government spying on average Americans has “raised a lot of questions for people.”

In a lighter exchange, Obama was asked about his lunch meeting with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Obama did not get into the specifics of the meeting with his former campaign rival but joked about Clinton's "glow" since leaving government. "We had a great time and she had that post-administration glow," Obama told Leno. "When folks leave the White House, like two weeks later, they look great!"

Obama also had kind words for another former rival, John McCain.

When Leno asked Obama about his blossoming "bromance" with the Arizona Republican, Obama joked, "That's how classic romantic comedies go." He went on to say, "He is a person of integrity. He is willing to say things, regardless of the politics ... It's probably not good for me to compliment him on television."

Leno was also asked about former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, who has recently received a one year asylum in Russia after leaking classified information about U.S. intelligence programs. "We don’t know exactly what he did, except what he said on the Internet and it's important for me not to judge," Obama said. However, Obama did say that in light of the incident he has asked the White House staff to look at ways of reducing the number of contract employees employed by federal agencies. As to Russia’s decision to grant Snowden temporary asylum, Obama said he did not think that, or the recent controversy surrounding Russia’s stance on gay rights would deter the U.S. from participating in next year’s Winter Olympic games in Sochi, Russia. "I think Putin and Russia have a big stake in making sure the Olympics work," he said. "I think they understand that for most of the countries that participate in the Olympics, we wouldn't tolerate gays and lesbians being treated differently," he said.

The history of Japanese motorcycle companies

Japanese motorcycle companies have an illustrious and surprisingly similar history. Post-war Japan was an impoverished, shattered country. It was in this environment that Soichiro Honda founded his eponymous company to produce an affordable means of transportation to help get the country back on its feet. The very first Honda was simple a bicycle with an engine bolted onto it, but it was ideal for the time.

At the same time Suzuki was producing a more advanced machine on the same principle. Once again using a bicycle the Suzuki version included an innovative gear system which allowed the rider to pedal the bicycle conventionally, pedal with assistance from the engine or use just the engine to provide power. The Japanese government was so impressed that they gave the company a subsidy to carry out further research.

Unlike Soichiro Honda's company, the other three big Japanese motorcycle makers have a much longer history. The oldest, Yamaha, was founded as far back as 1887. Before motorcycles they produced pianos and organs, which is why the Yamaha badge shows three tuning forks on it. Kawasaki came into existence in 1896 and, before commencing motorcycle production, had acquired valuable experience manufacturing aero engines. Suzuki was founded in 1909 and began by manufacturing weaving looms.

Japanese motorcycles have long been admired for their reliability. In the 1950s a Kawasaki ran continuously for 50,000 km without breaking down, providing valuable publicity for the company. Initially the Japanese manufacturers concentrated on building small capacity engines and provided seemingly little threat to the established European and American manufacturers. By the end of the 1950s Japanese motorcycles had begun to appear in America, most notably the 1959 Honda C100 Super Cub. It was a model which went on to sell more than 50 million examples throughout the world.

At around the same time tentative steps were being made in the international motorcycle racing world. Within ten years Japanese companies had established themselves as world beaters. In 1961 Mike Hailwood won for Honda at the prestigious Isle of Man Tourist Trophy races. The team also dominated both the 125cc and 250cc World Championships. Honda have continued to be a major force in the racing world, winning races and championships in many different categories of the sport.

The other Japanese companies also have proud racing pedigrees. Kawasaki has won numerous World Championships, being particularly successful in endurance racing. Suzuki and Yamaha also boast long traditions of racing excellence. They realized early the value of on-track success, both in generating favorable publicity and pushing forward the rate of development which could be transferred to their road bikes.

Innovation is a word often associated with Japanese manufacturers. In 1968 Yamaha became the first company to produce a motorcycle for use both on and off road. The DT-1 Enduro was an instant success, particularly in America. A more recent innovation came from Honda in 2006 when their Gold Wing model became the first motorcycle to be equipped with an airbag.

The incredibly successful story of Japan's motorcycle companies currently shows no signs of letting up. They continue to produce high quality, innovative machines which sell in huge quantities the world over. Their commitment to motorcycle racing is reflected in the fact that, for the 2008 season, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha are all competing in the MotoGP World Championship, motorcycle racing's elite class. Japanese motorcycles will be around for a very long time to come.

This is a perfect activity for a summer time but don't let the kids know this is a learning game.

There are big flowers, little flowers, bell-shaped flowers, red flowers, yellow flowers and so many more kinds of flowers that surround us everywhere in the summer months, whether in your backyard or at a park.

Even a visit to a flower nursery will be enjoyable because the kids will be happily looking at all the flowers to find answers for their Scavenger Hunt list and they will never know they are learning about nature in one of its most beautiful forms.

This scavenger hunt should be adult-guided and fun, better for kids ages 6 to 10 than younger children.

Ask the hunters to find the flower and list where it was located

Ask the hunters to use each simple flower sketch to convert it to another object, such as a cartoon character, a house, a car, etc.

A summer 2011 story in Mashable discussed the top ways in which museums are going digital. Here's part of one of the ways:

"Most museum-goers aren't going to turn off their phones during a visit. Rather than fight the tide, many museums are integrating mobile into their exhibits. ....

"Museums are creating fun competitions out of their exhibits using SCVNGR, a social, location-based gaming platform. For example, the Smithsonian hosted a SCVNGR hunt through nine of its museum's most popular exhibits between June 24 and July 26."

"By going places and doing challenges, players can earn points. They are also able to broadcast where they are and what they're up to to their friends on Facebook and Twitter. By doing challenges, players can unlock badges and real-world rewards, such as discounts or free items."

Team building is often seen as a fun day out for workers. Its effectiveness as a profit increasing tool is sometimes questioned as the team engages in games and activities that appear to have no relationship whatsoever to the work they perform back at the office or work place.

However, there's more to team building than a treasure hunt. It's not just problem solving games involving everyone getting wet on a river, or trying to cross an imaginary crocodile-infested expanse with the minimum of tools at their disposal. There is a purpose, though to be fair, that purpose can sometimes be lost in the translation.

Taking a treasure hunt as an example as it is a fairly popular away day event, it isn't really the strategy that the team implements or how they set about solving the treasure hunt that is important. Achieving the objective - finding the treasure in this case - does indicate that the team can work together effectively, and that is good, but there can be much more to be gained that is not immediately obvious.

Providing they are well structured, playing games and tackling difficult activities on team away days can mean that each team member has the rare and important opportunity to learn things about the other team members that they are highly unlikely to discover in the office or work place.

What they can learn is truly invaluable and something that can bind, bond and meld a team in ways that few other things can. A team can become much more cohesive and coherent as a result with greater focus and considerably greater cross-member appreciation and understanding. The overall result can indeed provide more from team building than any mere treasure hunt can.

The treasure hunt, if that is the game played, can allow each team member to relax in ways that they never do in the work place. The real person starts to emerge. Other team members can see that their line manager, for example, is actually a witty and funny guy. The junior whom no one pays any attention to can come out of his or her shell and be seen as someone with ideas that are constructive and useful. In short, everyone has the opportunity to shine and they usually do too.

This is where the real team building value of the treasure hunt, or whatever game or activity is utilised, lies. The underlying behaviour patterns and ways of thinking through problems of each team member can be discovered by each other team member. Most of it is subconscious understanding and quite subtle, but it tends to be there and it tends to stick too.

These discoveries are then taken back to the work place and put to use. If the away day has been organised and structured right, the end result can be increased profits from a team who find themselves more committed, more engaged and happier doing what they have been doing all along. Everyone's a winner, as they say, and it all starts with a treasure hunt.
